{"id":430,"date":"2018-04-22T00:09:56","date_gmt":"2018-04-22T00:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/?p=430"},"modified":"2025-01-03T18:03:49","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T18:03:49","slug":"elbow-pain-part-1-tennis-elbow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/index.php\/2018\/04\/22\/elbow-pain-part-1-tennis-elbow\/","title":{"rendered":"Elbow Pain Part 1: Tennis Elbow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So did you know you could get Tennis Elbow even if you have never played tennis?<\/p>\n<p>True story.<\/p>\n<p>My mom got it from mowing the lawn (She tended to do that especially after my Dad cut off the tip of middle finger once upon a time after a bar mitzvah luncheon.\u00a0 FYI, don&#8217;t stick your hand into a lawn mower if it gets clogged. Better idea, don&#8217;t mow the lawn after a couple of beers or three&#8230; it was the late 70s, &#8217;nuff said.)<\/p>\n<p>So, if you have never played tennis why the hell do you have tennis elbow?<\/p>\n<h1>Possible causes of tennis elbow<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>repetitive strain injuries<\/li>\n<li>vibration<\/li>\n<li>overuse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These can happen from all sorts of things including: overuse at work, prolonged computer or mouse work, heavy work such as construction and repetitive strain, mowing lawns, all sorts of other stuff and of course&#8230;. tennis.<\/p>\n<h2>Symptoms of tennis elbow<\/h2>\n<p>Symptoms of tennis elbow can include the following or may be just one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>pain at the outside (lateral side) of the elbow just above or at the joint line<\/li>\n<li>sharp pain when picking things up (even an empty cup)<\/li>\n<li>heat or swelling at the joint (possible but not always)<\/li>\n<li>forearm pain or tightness<\/li>\n<li>pain can be in &#8216;strange&#8217; places such as wrist or thumb ( &#8216;whaddaya mean its my elbow not my thumb?&#8217;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Treatment of tennis elbow<\/h3>\n<p>So what can you do for this painful condition?\u00a0 The best thing of course is to get it treated&#8230; Here is what I do for a patient I diagnose with tennis elbow:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>adjust the spine<\/li>\n<li>Post Isometric relaxation (PIR) technique for the elbow extensors<\/li>\n<li>deep muscle tissue release of the forearm<\/li>\n<li>kinesiotape application<\/li>\n<li>muscle care application<\/li>\n<li>Wrist adjustments<\/li>\n<li>exercise prescription<\/li>\n<li>Icing instructions for the patient<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>So there is a gold standard exercise for this problem is super easy but really important to do daily.\u00a0 Please see the YouTube Video below for full instructions on it!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Eccentric tennis elbow exercise\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-e2exiXj_Rs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So did you know you could get Tennis Elbow even if you have never played tennis?
