{"id":228,"date":"2017-12-16T16:36:56","date_gmt":"2017-12-16T16:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/?p=228"},"modified":"2017-12-16T16:36:56","modified_gmt":"2017-12-16T16:36:56","slug":"yellow-split-pea-dhal-modified-from-about-com-via-katie-mellor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/index.php\/2017\/12\/16\/yellow-split-pea-dhal-modified-from-about-com-via-katie-mellor\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellow Split Pea Dhal &#8211; Modified&#8230; from About.com via Katie Mellor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So in the winter I love soup and comfort food.\u00a0 This recipe is kind of a combo <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-234\" src=\"http:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Dhal-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Dhal-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Dhal.jpeg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>\u00a0 of both&#8230; It came originally from one of my closest friends Katie &#8211; via the website About.com.\u00a0 It is vegetarian and can be vegan and has a ton of turmeric in it which is amazing for you &#8211; said to do everything from help prevent Altzheimer&#8217;s Disease and Cancer as well as a natural anti-inflammatory.\u00a0 Anyways I don&#8217;t eat anything unless it tastes good.<\/p>\n<p>This one tastes good.<\/p>\n<p>Love making up a batch of it and taking it for several days for lunch.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the recipe from About.com and following it are my modifiers (how I make it for myself)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>1 cup yellow split peas, uncooked<\/p>\n<p>2 cups water or vegetable broth<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp tumeric<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 tsp cayenne<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 tsp salt<\/p>\n<p>1 Tbsp margarine<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 cumin (whole seeds or ground)<\/p>\n<p>2 whole cloves<\/p>\n<p>dash pepper<\/p>\n<p>In a large pot bring peas and broth to a slow simmer and add turmeric, cayenne and salt. Cover and cook 20 minutes stirring occasionally.\u00a0 In a large skillet or pan heat onion, clove, cumin in the margarine and cook 4-6 minutes.\u00a0 Add onion and spices to peas and allow to simmer at least 5 mire minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Serve with rice or alone in soup bowl.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My modifications:<\/p>\n<p>I do not add onion but fry the spices alone in the margarine (onion makes me toot and I think my patients wouldn&#8217;t appreciate that&#8230;
