{"id":110,"date":"2017-10-28T14:10:34","date_gmt":"2017-10-28T14:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/?p=110"},"modified":"2017-10-28T14:10:34","modified_gmt":"2017-10-28T14:10:34","slug":"shoulder-pain-what-the-rotator-cuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/index.php\/2017\/10\/28\/shoulder-pain-what-the-rotator-cuff\/","title":{"rendered":"Shoulder Pain &#8211; What the Rotator Cuff?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently had someone ask me if I treat shoulders.\u00a0 The treatment that chiropractors are best known for is back pain and neck pain.\u00a0 This is great but for me really falls short of describing what I do every day.\u00a0 One of the things I love most about my job is the variety of problems I see daily and my ability to problem solve for them and help patients get the care and treatment they need to heal.<\/p>\n<p>I had a patient recently who came to me after having care for a shoulder injury for three months somewhere else.\u00a0 He told me that he was no better at all and still had trouble sleeping despite the care he received.\u00a0 We did an examination and I diagnosed him with a rotator cuff problem &#8211; specifically a possible small tear in the supraspinatus muscle (one of four muscles the rotator cuff).\u00a0 He had been given exercise, ultrasound and some massage already but hadn&#8217;t seen improvement.<\/p>\n<p>What I do differently is examine the whole spine as well as the shoulder and add treatment that also involves much more hands on therapy and support for the spine &#8211; the shoulder doesn&#8217;t float around in space it is attached to the skeleton by muscles &#8211; muscles that get tight, angry and irritate all of the joints surrounding them.\u00a0 Irritated joints tend to cause inflammation.\u00a0 More inflammation causes more tightness in the muscles &#8211; a vicious cycle that we need to break.<\/p>\n<p>Pain from rotator cuff problems can refer down the arm, into the hand, into the upper back and neck and can even cause headaches.\u00a0 This can cause decreased range of motion of the shoulder and weakness in the arm. \u00a0I love treating shoulders because the results can be super dramatic.<\/p>\n<p>Within 2 weeks of seeing the patient I was talking about he told me he felt 80% better and his range of motion was amazing and almost 100% better.\u00a0 He told me he could sleep again at night and started bringing me lunch because he loved to cook and was able to do that again.<\/p>\n<p>Please don&#8217;t live with shoulder pain &#8211; it usually gets worse and sometimes turns into a frozen shoulder which is often much harder to treat and takes much longer to heal.\u00a0 I would love to help you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently had someone ask me if I treat shoulders.\u00a0 The treatment that chiropractors are best known for is back pain and neck pain.\u00a0 This is great but for me really falls short of describing what I do every day.\u00a0 One of the things I love most about my job is the variety of problems &hellip; <\/p>\n<p class=\"link-more\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drkarenhudes.ca\/index.php\/2017\/10\/28\/shoulder-pain-what-the-rotator-cuff\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading<span class=\"screen-reader-text\"> &#8220;Shoulder Pain &#8211; What the Rotator Cuff?&#8221;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,12,15,22,21,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-110","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-injury","category-neck-pain","category-pain","category-rotator-cuff","category-shoulder","category-treatment"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.0.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Shoulder Pain - What the Rotator Cuff?
